Emotional Intelligence - Why is it so important

We live in a highly emotionally charged world now, COVID 19, has imposed restrictions on our lives at all levels.
Lockdowns, shortage of essential goods and services in some countries, mass deaths, these are the impacts we now face.
We live in an uncertain time, the world as we knew it has changed and may never be the same again.
This places high levels of stress upon all of society, from front line health workers to people in isolation to businesses trying to survive.
One of the keys to Emotional Awareness starts with Self Awareness, an understanding of how we are reacting and why we are reacting the way that we do.
Self Awareness is about being alert to the sensations in our bodies, our heart rates our breathing, becoming in tune with the sensations.
As your body perceives stress, your adrenal glands make and release the hormone cortisol into your bloodstream. Often called the "stress hormone," cortisol causes an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure. It's your natural "flight or fight" response that has kept humans alive for thousands of years.
The more that you stay in this state, the more that the fight-flight is triggered, the more that your body is chemically charged.
The importance of both Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness is critical to your well being and those around you.
